Structural Editing

Structural editing (also referred to as developmental or substantive editing) is clarification and reorganization that is done to a manuscript in order to develop the content and structure. This is done with the audience in mind, and may involve reorganization of paragraphs and chapters.

This type of editing would be done first, before a copy edit or a proofread, as it addresses the document as a whole.

Since this type of edit addresses the overall content and flow of the document, you may also decide that a stylistic edit could be done after the initial structural edit (see Copy Editing for further details).

If you think that your document could benefit from structural editing, or would like further details, please feel free to contact me using the below form.
