Proofreading is the final stage in the editing process, and would be done after all other edits have been completed and your content and structure is finalized. Proofreading is used to find and fix any remaining errors, including spelling, grammar, and typos. Minimal adjustments should need to be done to the document at this stage.
It is important to note that proofreading is not copy editing and should not be expected in place of this. Significant mechanical changes would be done during the copy editing stage.
