Copy Editing

Copy editing includes editing for grammar and spelling errors, and will also look at potential style and readability issues. Fact-checking will also be done during this stage.

This type of edit would be used on a document after all writing is finished and the structure reviewed (at this point a stylistic edit may have been done or will need to be done along with the copy edit).

*A stylistic edit, or line-by-line edit, may need to be done as part of the structural edit or before the copy edit. This is focused on non-mechanical issues and is done to clarify meaning and smooth language to improve the overall flow.
